BLOOD DONATION

1 in 3 Australian’s will need a blood product in their lifetime.

— Lifeblood Australia

Every donation counts.

Your donation will give a lifeline to someone in need.

Small acts = huge impact.

Ruben relied on the kindness of countless strangers who donated blood products. Those donations gave him strength and energy and gave us precious extra time and memories together as a family. We will always be deeply grateful.

Our hope is simple: to raise awareness about blood product donation, and how easy it can be to save a life.

Why it matters?

  • You can donate blood or plasma in Australia if you’re aged 18–75

  • 1 in 3 people will need a blood product in their lifetime

  • Yet only 1 in 30 Australians donate

That gap means people can be left waiting for lifesaving treatment.

🩸 Blood

  • One donation can save up to three lives.

  • The donation itself takes 10–15 minutes. (Allow up to an hour for your first visit, including a chat with the friendly Lifeblood staff and a quick health check).

  • You’ll relax in a comfy chair and enjoy free snacks and drinks after your donation.

  • Your body replaces the donated blood within 24–48 hours.

  • You can donate every 12 weeks, saving up to 12 lives in a year.

Blood is needed every single day — to treat cancers and blood disorders, support surgeries and transplants, help pregnant women and newborns, and in response to accidents and trauma.

💛 Plasma (aka Liquid Gold)

  • Plasma makes up over half of your blood.

  • It’s used in 18 lifesaving treatments, including for burns, immune conditions, cancer and heart surgery.

  • The donation takes around 45 minutes (allow one hour for the initial visit).

  • Bring your headphones, a podcast, a playlist, or chat while you donate.

  • Enjoy free snacks and drinks after your donation.

  • You can donate plasma every two weeks if you choose.

In 2025 Team Roll Up For Ruben completed -

175 blood donations = 525 lives saved.

💙 Platelets

  • Platelets are tiny cells in your blood that help it clot. They seal wounds and plug leaks in damaged blood vessels.

  • Platelets are often needed for patients, undergoing cancer treatment (such as leukaemia), living with a blood disorder, during major surgery, and after severe trauma (from workplace accidents to shark attacks).

  • A platelet donation takes around one hour (allow 1.5 hours for the initial visit).

  • Listen to music or a podcast, watch your favourite show, or have a rest in a comfy chair.

  • After donating, choose from some well-earned tasty snacks before heading back to your day.

  • If eligible, you can donate platelets every two weeks — making you a regular lifeline for someone who depends on them.
